2019 Wuerffel Trophy candidate, originally a walk-on, was surprised after practice with football scholarship
Probably more times than you would think, the good guys actually do win.
And for a walk-on football player, no prize is bigger to win than that of being told that you've been given an athletic scholarship.
Schools are finding pretty creative ways to capture the moment when the announcement happens. At South Carolina, Coach Will Muschamp kept it pretty simple this week when announcing the big moment for Spencer Eason-Riddle.
"You're not paying for school anymore, you're on scholarship," Muschamp announced.
The 2019 Wuerffel Trophy nominee appeared in every game in 2018, primarily on special teams, and plans are big for him this season.
Off the field, he's been regularly named to the SEC Honor Roll and, the Community Service teams and shared the Harold White GPA Award for special teams with Kiel Pollard, which was announced at the 2019 spring game.
Eason-Riddle joins an impressive list of Wuerffel Trophy nominees from South Carolina over the years including Eric Norwood, T.J. Johnson, Damiere Byrd, Dylan Thompson and Antoine Wilder.
