COMMUNITY SERVICE

A.J. is one of the top performers on the team in terms of community service and has been since he first stepped on campus. For the last five spring breaks, A.J. has travelled to Nakuru, Kenya, to minister at Mountain Park Academy. He collects football equipment and other things the kids need and takes it every year and then teaches them to play football while he's there. Each year he's recruited other teammates to go on the trip and last year, a full-time assistant coach even made the trip. A.J. sponsors a child to attend the school and is responsible for at least 10 other children now being sponsored. He is also one of our top community service volunteers, all while maintaining a strong GPA in a very tough major.

ABOUT US

Why was the Wuerffel Trophy created?  We felt that there was a void in major college football awards. Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel put it best when he wrote, “The Wuerffel. It’s about time. There’s an award for the best quarterback, best running back, wide receiver, best linebacker, best center and even best kicker and punter. Why not one for the best human being?”
