One of the most popular methods for non-profit organizations to raise money is through charity golf tournaments.

Many are successful.  The All Sports Association’s annual tournament falls into that category.  July 25th marked the 29th consecutive annual golf tournament for the organization.

However, this year’s tournament did more than just raise money.  Held at Shalimar Pointe Golf Club, the association wanted to raise the spirit of their friend in upstate New York who is in a battle with cancer.

Their friend is the 42nd Annual Banquet’s keynote speaker, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.

“Jim delivered one of the most riveting keynote addresses in our history,” said 2011 All Sports Association president Steve Boswell.

“The least we can do for him is to let him know that we are thinking of him and praying for him in his fight,” he added.

Participants sent their personal best wishes to Kelly on an oversized greeting card, while some others did so in a video message (see clip below).

The card and clip were sent to Jim from the association with the message that we remain with him in his fight.

And on August 19, after three months of treatment, doctors reported that Kelly was cancer free!
